'Eliminating CCP' Slogans Frightened CCP

Review seminar of cross-strait agreement commenced.

Issues, including mainland tourists traveling in Taiwan,

are discussed. It was said that Green Island, Taitung

was blacklisted as a non-travelable place for tourists

by the Communist Party (CCP) for its anti-CCP slogans.

Regarding this, NTD interviewed Ms. Chen Shuhui,

director of Taitung County tourism bureau.

Green Island is a volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean,

30 km east of Taitung. It is only 16 square kilometers.

Its highest point is called Fire-Burned Mountain.

From the popular song "Green Island Serenade",

the mainland Chinese have also heard of this island.

Green Island is like a boat, swaying in the moonlight…

Taitung County Tourism Director Chen Shuhui said,

Green Island is a very good eco-tourism destination.

Chen Shuhui: It is adventurous, with pretty coral reefs,

tropical fish and many species on brink of extinction.

It has the most beautiful coast. You can dive here.

There are only 3 undersea hot springs on the world:

one in Italy, one in Japan, and one on Green Island.

Chen said out of the 1.2 million mainland tourists

that visited Taiwan in 2010, 60% came to Taitung,

but less than 1% came to Green Island.

Although Beijing's Strait Tourism Bureau later clarified,

Chen said on a Taitung County meeting, Green Island

was by CCP as a “not-recommended destination”.

From 1972 to 1987, Taiwan National Defense Ministry

built a prison here, which is now Oasis Resort.

On the prison's mottled walls, portraits of soldiers

and "firmly anti-CCP" signs can still be seen today.

At the entrance, a prominent slogan was preserved:

"Eliminating CCP and Restore Republic of China".

Another prison here was for educating new comers.

On May 17, 1951, in the authoritarian era of Taiwan,

the first political prisoners were sent here.

Until 1965, all prisoners here were political.

Chen: High-level CCP officials find it to be sensitive.

Green Island is where human rights prisons located.

There are those slogans from earlier times.

The high-level CCP officials find them too sensitive,

and do not recommend it to mainland Chinese.

Taiwanese government started building Green Island

Human Rights Cultural Park in 2001.

On December 10, 2007 Human Rights Day,

then-President Chen Shui-bian and then-VP Annette Lu

co-hosted the opening ceremony of the park.

With restored 3rd Battalion and over 60 wax figures,

the real life of political prisoners is shown.

Annette Lu was imprisoned here,

and so were ex-director of Exam Dept. Yao Chia-wen

and Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu.

The Taiwanese government hopes people to

understand the development of human rights

and cherish democracy and freedom in Taiwan.

Let my inner feelings continuously tell you…

In recent years, mainland tourists to Taiwan increased.

Many enjoy taking photos in front of the slogan

"Eliminating CCP and Restore Republic of China (ROC)".

Epoch Times in Taiwan analyzed that

as the Chinese are quitting the CCP in large number,

any "Eliminating CCP" messages make CCP nervous.

So it blocked tourists from going to Green Island.

Chen: They are words on a cliff in Human Rights Park.

I think they are historical memories.

Green Island has "Eliminating CCP and Restore ROC",

as historical memories.

Green Island township government said

these slogans are indelible collective history

of people across the Taiwan Strait.

Chen urged Chinese authorities to open their heart,

and respect the history. She welcomes mainland tourists.

Chen: The CCP should not mind such things.

They should just open their heart.

Just regard it as a historical memory.

We warmly welcome friends come from China.

Green Island Township Office does not intend to

erase or overwrite these slogans.

They often re-paint them to greet tourists.
