Obama's Uncle Arrested and Punished

U.S. President Obama's uncle was arrested for drunk driving,

and he claimed to give the White House a call.

Later he was found to be an illegal immigrant

and was arrested by U.S. police.

In response, the White House's attitude is the

"he should be punished as ordinary people."

Netizens in mainland China said, as an uncle of the president,

he was still arrested, and they should learn from the U.S.

Obama's uncle Onyango Obama was arrested last week f

or drunk driving.

Later, his illegal immigration status was exposed,

so he was detained as a result.

Associated Press obtained the police report, showing that

when Onyango was arrested, the police asked him

if he needed to call to arrange his bail. He replied,

"I think I'm going to call the White House."

It is reported that Onyango is a liquor store clerk,

living in a public welfare house for low-income residents,

and taking disability allowance.

Obama mentioned his uncle in his memoirs, but according to

reports, Obama and his uncle never contacted each other.

The U.S. press secretary Jay Carney said on September 1 that

the White House expected the same measures taken in

Obama's uncle's case as in any other immigration cases.

Carney also said that President Obama did not know about

the arrest before his staff told him.

Obama's uncle was detained, but the White House declared

that he should be punished the same as anyone else.

Netizens in China yearn for the U.S. practice,

and hope Chinese officials to learn from the U.S.

Some netizens said, "Petty policeman,

don't you want to live?

You are so audacious and dare to touch the president's uncle?

Others said, "President Obama cannot even rival

our village officials.”

“Obama's relatives, if you were in China,

how lucky you would be!

As long as you showed you are Obama's uncle,

you could enjoy free banquets all over China!"

A netizen said that Obama's uncle should learn from certain

Chinese people and shout, "My nephew is Obama!"

In October 2011, Li Qiming killed a female college student by

drunk driving in Hebei, attracting entire China's attention.

Li Qiming shouted at the scene, "My dad is Li Gang!"

His words have since become representative of

China's "officials' second generation."

After Li Qiming's scandal, other cases, in which people

showed off powerful relatives also emerged.

In Changchun City, after beating a female college student,

a man shouted, "I know Uncle Ji; nobody can touch me!"

Another claimed to be mother of Peng Shuai, the champion of

the Asian Tennis Games.

She slapped a volunteer, and said "My daughter is Peng Shuai."

In June 2011, in Yonghe County, Shanxi Province,

an official's son shouted, "My dad is the state law!"

They were even more outrageous than Li Qiming's remarks.

Besides Obama, there are others presidents,

whose relatives caused trouble for them.

Ex-President Clinton's half-brother Roger Clinton also had

a drinking problem, and was detailed in federal prison for

for a year for possessing cocaine.

President Bush's twin daughters were convicted in 2001

because of drinking.

Voice of America reported that the relatives of U.S. officials

don't enjoy privileges or legal exemptions.

If they broke the law, even president could not help.

If president's relatives get into trouble,

the president may only feel embarrassed.

Americans are capable of distinguishing between presidents

and their relatives.
