Petitioners Suffer during Lantern Festival,

Public Service Activities Supressed

The 15th day of the first lunar solar year,

marks the Lantern Festival,

which is a traditional Chinese holiday when

families gather together.

However, for petitioners staying in Beijing, they can't unite

with family.

The Beijing public service organization, Public Alliance

members volunteered to deliver rice ball soup to petitioners,

but the soup was intercepted by police

and the volunteers were detained.

Public service organizations expressed,

charitable activities in Beijing are often persecuted.

On the day of the Lantern Festival, Beijing public

organization Public Alliance members,

took 300 bags of sweet rice-ball soup donated by citizens and

organized small groups to distribute them to petitioners

who live near Beijing South Railway Station, under the

Yongding Gate Bridge, and under the Kaiyang bridge,

because those petitioners can't go back to their families

for the holiday.

Around 3:30pm in the afternoon, the volunteers were

intercepted by police.

Yongding Gate police station police took away

volunteer Yuan Wenhua.

Three volunteer college students were also taken by police.

The three college students were interrogated for several hours.

Yuan Wenhua was interrogated until 3AM the next morning.

Yuan Wenhua, "We should help those in need.

The Chinese regime's attitude is very hard to understand.

You (Chinese regime) don't do it, we will do it,

you should help us, support us.

Help these vulnerable groups overcome difficulty, so that

they can escape from it. They shouldn't be using such methods."

Yuan Wenhua pointed out that petitioners mostly live in poverty,

some are afraid to go home, others don't have a home to go to.

Yuan Wenhua, "For some local officials, when someone

petitions, he has a responsibility.

If a petitioner comes from your area, then the officials

will have to undergo a political performance review.

Since petitioners affect him (local official),

he will block and beat up the petitioners.

They won't let petitioners petition, if he (the petitioner) goes home,

then he won't be able to come back to Beijing again. So some people are afraid to go home."

For this reason, in the cold winter, these petitioners can only

spend the holiday under the bridges or in a train station in Beijing.

However, petitioners are chased away by police even

if they try to enter a train station for warmth.

Human rights activists and a Public Alliance volunteer

Yang Mingyu expressed, at Beijing South Train Station,

public organizations also organized rice ball soup distribution,

but were also arrested by police.

Yang Mingyu, "The Communist Party is always like this,

it doesn't care for the public benefit, nor serve the people.

Now the entire Communist Parties in the world, in China,

are all corrupted."

On the night of Feb 6th, Chinese Communist Party leaders

celebrated at the People's Great Hall.

Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao and other CCP central leaders

attended the celebration.

On the same day, 50+ petitioners went to the Nanjing High

Court to protest against corruption in the legal system.

Petitioner Zhang Jianzhong who went to the protest

expressed,

petitioner's requests are often met with lies and

persecution from law enforcement agencies,

that's why they used such methods as protesting

to the high court.

Zhang Jianzhong, "Many cases are due to inaction by the court.

The High court protects and serves those evil corrupted thugs;

they shield and make excuses for illegal actions conducted by

the government, completely ignoring the citizens.

The petitioners only protest when they cant tolerate it anymore."

Zhang Jianzhong believes, corrupt officials place their own

interests and benefits above everything.

They use whatever means necessary to persecute the people.

He said, the totalitarian Chinese regime is

the source of all evil in China.
