Farmers Land Used To Bribe Overseas Chinese

Recently, farmers from Fujian Province told NTD that key

overseas Chinese collude with local officials against them.

Several developers, including former president of Fujian

Association in New York, conspired with local officials to forcibly acquire over 200 acres of farmland.

Many villagers are left landless and have no means to live.

New York Chinese community leaders agree with that.

They said this is a typical example of how the Chinese

Communist Party (CCP) uses business interests to control overseas Chinese communities.

Villagers from Langtou Township in Guantou Town of Fujian

Province brought piles of documents to a NTD reporter.

They said that over 200 acres of farmlands

were forcibly acquired from them.

Official documents show that the developers responsible

for the acquisition include Huaxing Real Estate company.

It is owned by former president of Fujian Association

in New York, Zheng Shimin, and Yunnan Sanxin Group.

Peal city Restaurant in New York is one of the

shareholders in the Yunnan Sanxin Group.

Villagers said, land purchase price was very unreasonable.

It is a few times lower than the market price.

In addition, the acquisition payment

was not paid in a timely manner to the villagers.

Villager: "When I sold land to the harbor bureau in 1993,

I could sell one acre of land for 110,000 yuan.

If I could sell for 110,000 yuan in 1993, how come I can

only sell one acre of land for just 23,000 yuan in 2003?"

Villagers said in 2003, they were told the land was acquired

for highway constructions and travel projects.

But in reality, the land was used

for commercial real estate development.

Mr Dong (Villager):"The government can purchase

the land for 10,000 yuan per acre.

However, if I sell to a merchant,

I can sell it for 500,000 yuan per acre.

Now the land in Guantou Town can be sold

for up to 2.8 million yuan per acre at a public auction."

Villagers said since their land was forcibly acquired,

they had nowhere to appeal for many years.

They have recently gone to Beijing to appeal,

but received no response.

Instead, the villagers were threatened.

It has caused great difficulties to the villagers.

Mr Dong: "You already earned so much money, why can't

you compensate us just a little, at least it'll pay for our food.

It's very hard for us to live if we don't have land.

Some of us live in tremendous hardships."

Villagers said much of the land acquired was not developed.

Many were idle and abandoned.

According to the government policy,

idle land should be returned to farmers.

Mr Dong: "Please return the land to us. We (farmers) need

land. We cannot survive without the land."

NTD tried to contact Zheng Shimin on several occasions,

to confirm this news.

However, we could only hear a voicemail message.

And Zheng did not return our phone calls either.

Former committee member of China Overseas Friendship

Association, Lu Dong, commented on the issue.

Lu said the CCP gives land to overseas Chinese community

leaders to control and infiltrate overseas Chinese groups.

Lu Dong: "Many leaders of Chinese community groups,

like Fujian Benevolent Association receive land and benefits.

The CCP uses business interests to buy these leaders

to support CCP's strategic interests."

Lu said that the Chinese Communist Party

had also tried to lure him.

Lu Dong: "A director of CCP's Central United Front Bureau

said, 'Lu Dong, what business do you do? We can help you.'"

Overseas community leaders said one can only judge

a community group by its action, not by its name.

The Fujian Association has helped the CCP

to suppress Falun Gong practitioners.

They are not helping their Fujian people to seek benefits,

but rather promote the CCP policies.

This is a violation of the US foreign agency law.

Liu Guohua (Director,of PR at Democracy University): “CCP

incites hatred towards the US among Chinese communities.

Some were helping the CCP to engage in various

activities on the street to persecute Falun Gong.

I am here to tell you, it won't be long. If you cross over

the red line, the US government will deport you."

CCP's attempts to show the international community

its 'soft power.' is not something new.

However, people like the Fujian villagers, trying to appeal

for many years, probably did not know the reality.

That the land they have been relying on is completely lost,

and it is used as a tool for CCP to bribe overseas Chinese.
