Wen Zhao: The Ill Intentions behind Bo Xilai’s Chongqing Model

The Wang Lijun incident has unfolded with more inside stories

from within the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from top to bottom.

Commentator Wen Zhao says that Wang’s defection to

the US consulate has brought the CCP’s top-leadership infighting to the surface.

Meanwhile, the event has uncovered the past actions of

Bo Xilai, the CCP’s Secretary in Chongqing.

Sources have said that Jiang Zemin, the CCP’s former head

had agreed to investigate Bo Xilai.

However, the task force set up for the probe into Bo’s affairs was

led by Zhou Yongkang, a Politburo Standing Committee member.

Beijing sources have revealed that Jiang differentiates

between Bo and Zhou and the CCP itself.

Jiang desperately protects the CCP,

while Bo and Zhou fight to safeguard their own interests.

Commentator Wen Zhao says that the move of Jiang’s clique

cannot be viewed as a last chance-fighting. It looks more like self-protection.

Wen Zhao (Commentator) says that: "The incident linking

everything to Bo has been diffused, voices for toppling Bo are favored within the CCP.

So the CCP therefore has to conduct an investigation into Bo’s activities.

If Jiang’s clique doesn’t participate in the probe,

the unearthed news will be used by their rivals as a very important tool against its members.

So Jiang’s forces must get involved in the probe, aiming not

to simply abandon Bo Xilai, but to control the scope of probe.

The clique is aiming at controlling the outcome of the probe."

Yet Bo Xilai reportedly holds criminal evidence against

some of the CCP Politburo Standing members gathered in his anti-vice campaign.

Bo might use this to coerce the top leadership,

rather than waiting for death, according to reports.

Wen Zhao (Commentator) says: "Wen Jiabao blocked Bo’s

promotion to Deputy Prime Minister from his then position of Minister of Commerce.

Afterwards, Bo was dispatched to take office in Chongqing.

It was actually a major reversal in Bo’s career.

The top leadership, including Wen, had wanted Bo to retire

after his two-year’s tenure in Chongqing.

But Bo launched the red-culture and anti-vice campaign

in a big way, aiming to pave the way for himself back to the CCP’s Central Committee.

This indicates that Bo is not a person who gives up easily."

Bo has promoted the Chongqing Model across China.

Wen Zhao thinks this is because Bo is aiming at a higher goal.

Wen Zhao (Commentator) says: "Inside the CCP, the proposal of

a specific mode or route comes from the CCP’s central authority.

Bo is a regional senior official, his proposal of some kind of

mode or route was suspected of power-overstepping.

His acts showed his coveting of CCP central authority,

and his challenge to the CCP’s central power base.

Also, he has posed as a CCP central decision-maker,

this is deemed blatantly taboo within the CCP."

Wen Zhao reviews Bo’s so-called Chongqing Experience.

Bo touted his movement to gain advantage from the red-culture and anti-vice campaign.

He wanted to set up his own personal authority after the CCP’s

leadership change this year, says Wen Zhao.

Wen Zhao (Commentator) says: "So his (Bo’s) action has

in fact challenged the central leadership of Hu Jintao and of upcoming Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang.

He has spared no effort in promoting his Chongqing experience,

and has mobilized many members of the CCP Politburo to affirm it.

This has presented a challenge to Hu, and also to

the CCP’s central power base.

Outwardly it seemed that he had gained public support, and that

he would be surely welcomed by the (CCP) Central committee.”

So, Wen Zhao pointed out that Bo is a careerist

in the view of the Chinese Regime.
