Big Japanese manufacturers expect business conditions to worsen in the next three months.

日本大型製造商預期未來三個月商業環境惡化。

According to a Bank of Japan (BoJ) survey data collected after the devastating March 11 earthquake, Japanese corporations are turning pessimistic, amid rolling power blackouts and a nuclear safety crisis that threatens to delay the country's return to a moderate economic recovery.

據日本銀行在3月11日毀滅性大地震後、所收集的資料，日本企業正轉向悲觀，在輪流限電和核能安全危機之中，威脅延緩該國重返適度的經濟復甦。

The central bank's business sentiment index for June was seen at minus two in the latest survey, down from plus three in its pre-quake survey.

最近一次調查，央行六月商業信心指數是負2，低於地震前調查的正3。

Meantime, the Japanese government continues to battle against radiation leaks from a crippled nuclear power plant, with a warning the effort could take months.

同時，日本政府持續與癱瘓的核電廠輻射外洩抗戰，並警告可能需要幾個月的努力。

Japan's top government spokesman Yukio Edano says new tactics to pinpoint where radioactive water is leaking into the sea include putting colored bath salts into contaminated water.

日本最高發言人枝野幸男說，新的策略是確定放射性水外漏到海裏的位置，包括放入有色浴鹽到受污染的水中。

[Yukio Edano, Chief Cabinet Secretary]:

"We now put in as a tracer about 13 kilos of milky white bath salts in the seawater exhaust pipe from the vertical trench."

內閣官房長官枝野幸男說：

「我們現在放入約 13公斤的乳白色浴鹽，到垂直海溝的排海水水管，當作追蹤物。」

Despite the pessimism, Japan's Nikkei average advanced Monday as the yen continued to weaken against the dollar and the euro.

儘管悲觀，週一日經指數上漲，因為日元持續兌美元和歐元走軟。

Yen weakness came ahead of an expected rate hike by the European Central Bank (ECB), and possible support measures for the Japanese economy from the BoJ.

日元疲軟是在預期歐洲央行加息、以及來自歐洲央行(ECB)的支持措施之前。

The dollar was in the 84-yen range, up more than 10 percent from its post-World War Two record low of 76.25 yen struck last month.

1美元在84日元左右，比上個月所創下二次世界大戰以來最低記錄的76.25日元，還要高超過10%。

【英文說文解字】

各位讀者好：

重創日本的地震、海嘯與核災，讓商業環境惡化，也就是景氣惡化，景氣的英文是boom，“惡化”一般英文記者會使用worsen以及deteriorate 這兩個字。

Worsen就是worse+ -en，-en是動詞字根“使”的意思，例如strength是力量，加上-en就是strengthen“使加強”的意思。那worse是“壞”，所以worsen就是“使變壞”，因此是“使惡化”之意。類似的還很多，例如weak+-en就是使削弱的意思。Tight是“緊的”，tighten就是“使拉緊”；loose是“鬆的”，loosen就是“使放鬆”。

pre-quake survey是指地震前的調查，pre-是“之前”，那麼post-disaster concerns呢？post-則是指涉after，所以是“災後的憂慮”！ post-modern就是“後現代”之意。

另外，表示“在～之前”一般當然是before啦，可是英文記者也喜歡使用ahead of～或是prior to～同樣也都是表示“在～之前”的意思喔！本則新聞中Yen weakness came ahead of an expected rate hike by ECB就是一例。
