Hu Jia Released But Monitored
Anchor:
Famous Chinese human rights activist Hu Jia
was released on June 16, after serving his jail term.
Many security staff are still around his apartment
in Beijing and closely monitor him.
On June 27, Hu Jia's wife Zeng left a message
on Twitter, saying that they had a very long day,
and Hu Jia needs to re-evaluate his thoughts
on the society and re-arrange his life and work.
Human rights groups worry that
Hu Jia is ordered to remain silent like Ai Weiwei.
After 3 years and 6 months, Hu Jia was finally
released from prison. Hu Jia』s wife Zen Jinyan
left a message on Twitter on June 27:
“We had a very long day and there are so many
things to talk about. Please do not come to visit us.
You cannot come through anyway.
We will meet up in the future.
Jia is slowly re-evaluating his understanding
on the society and re-arranging his life and work.
There is no need for me to talk on his behalf.”
Radio France Internationale reports, foreign media
wanted to interview Hu Jia the day he was released.
But they were all stopped by the guards
under Hu』s apartment building,
who claim to be the community security guards.
They said, due to social order risks
they do not allow external visitors.
Zeng Jinyan's cell phone was turned off.
No one was able to reach her.
Zeng Jinyan said earlier, she was prepared that
they would be under house arrest once Hu is released.
She was concerned about the type of persecution
Chen Guangchen』s family encounter.
Fearing their daughter』s life would be affected too,
she arranged the child to go to school in Shenzhen.
Some human rights groups are concerned
about the one-year "deprivation of political rights,"
although Hu Jia was released from prison.
It is likely that Hu Jia is required to keep quiet
like Ai Weiwei. Zeng told Reuters, she would not
ask her husband to stop human rights activities.
According to Radio France Internationale,
the head of Beijing Aids Institute, Peng Dingding,
expressed that it is not advisable for Hu Jia
to participate in human rights movement for a year,
to avoid breaking any rule and being detained again.
Several days before Hu Jia was released,
Peng accepted an interview about Hu』s release,
and lost his freedom since June 20.
Peng Dingding: “About six plainclothes policemen,
two policemen take several security guards.
They follow me 24 hours a day.”
Many Beijing dissidents』 freedom was restricted
due to Hu』s release, according to www.zgwq.net
Beijing democracy activist Zha Jianguo:
“They started monitoring me on June 25.
Police told me clearly that it was related to Hu Jia.
They also followed me to the hospital.
They are still downstairs monitoring me.”
In the afternoon of June 25, Beijing dissident
Gao Hongming was taken away by the police.
Beijing dissident writer Liu Di』s home
is guarded by the police since June 25,
and Liu is not able to leave home at will.
Some analysts think the recent release of Ai Weiwei
and Hu Jia are simply moving them from one prison
to another. Radio Free Asia said their silence to media
reflects the authorities』 suppression of dissidents.
Hu Jia is 37-year old. He devoted many years to
human rights of AIDS patients and the environment.
He published many articles condemning
the Chinese regime』 abuse of human rights.
At the end of 2007 he was arrested soon after
his report to the European Parliament
on the human rights situation in China.
In 2008, the Chinese authorities sentenced Hu
to 3.5 years prison for “subversion of state power.”
In 2008 Hu Jia was awarded the Sakharov Prize
by the European Parliament
for his contribution on human rights.
