Chinese Spy Case Analyzed

On July 1, as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

was celebrating its 90th anniversary,

a protest march of 220,000 took place in Hong Kong.

A NTD reporter was arrested as a protestor.

President of HK Journalists Association, Mak Yin-ting,

said that the police extended restrictions on reporters,

protestors and human rights observers in recent years.

Meanwhile, the FBI in the U.S. arrested Yang Chunlai

a pro-communist activist and president of

Association of Chinese Scientists and Engineers.

Now CCP's "United Front Work" drew wide attention.

CCP has always highly regarded "United Front Work".

Mao Zhedong once said in 1939,

"United front, armed struggle, party building, are

three magic weapons to defeat enemies in revolution."

Former Anhui province prosecutor Shen Liangqing:

During the Chinese civil war, “United Front Work”

had played a significant role for CCP to seize power.

Now it is needed to consolidate CCP』s one-party rule.

Chinese authorities are actually a typical pragmatist

and opportunist of no principle.

On July 1, FBI agents arrested Yang Chunlai of

Association of Chinese Scientists and Engineers

at his workplace Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME),

and charged him with stealing trade secrets.

Yang, 49, is a senior software engineer at CME.

The FBI found that Yang had e-mailed files containing

protected source code and proprietary information

of CME to Chinese officials.

CME started monitoring computers in May 2011.

They found a large number of operation documents,

especially the ones containing protected source code,

were copied to a removable storage devices.

Yang originally planned to return to China on July 7.

Former Anhui province prosecutor Shen Liangqing:

Upon seeing the news of his arrest, I felt good.

It reminds people that there is a price to pay

to sell your soul to the devil.

When you live in freedom,

you should abide by the laws of this country.

In May 2006, Yang returned to Beijing for

training of overseas Chinese community leaders.

In June 2007, he said on the "Fourth World Conference

of Overseas Chinese Friendship Societies",

that his association could affect 500 votes in U.S.

Former Anhui province prosecutor Shen Liangqing:

China』s serious human rights issues have drawn

the West』s attention and humanitarian intervention.

CCP uses the overseas Chinese community leaders

to influence western countries

to alleviate the pressure borne by CCP.

Yang once revealed to ChinaQW.com that

Chinese People's Political Consultative Vice Chair

Luo Haocai emphasized on his visit to the U.S. that

the Chinese in U.S. should participate in local politics.

Yang』s case reminded many people of

America's most famous CCP spy, Larry Wu-Tai Chin.

Chin was a senior CIA official.

The information he passed to CCP had affected

the Korean War, Vietnam War and Sino-U.S. relations.

He was arrested and committed suicide in 1986

after being denied by the CCP.

Under U.S. law, if Yang is convicted, he will face up

to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
