CCP Panic at Libyan Turnover

Gaddafi's 42-year dictatorship has collapsed.

The opposition army is searching for Gaddafi to arrest him.

Libyan embassies in various countries have changed their flag.

America, Europe, the Arab League and other countries

announced recognition of Libya's new regime.

Gaddafi's fall has shocked

the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Discussions amongst both overseas Chinese and mainland

netizens pointed out that dictatorships always come to an end.

On August 23, Libya's opposition army defeated

the remaining force of Gaddafi in the capital.

They broke through and took over the barracks

where Gaddafi』s palace is located.

Libyans cheered over Gaddafi's doom.

Abdul Khalil, president of Libya's National Transitional

Committee said the Gaddafi era had ended,

and he hoped that Gaddafi could be captured alive for sentence.

UN, EU, United States, Britain, France, Germany and Italy

urged Gaddafi to cease military activities immediately,

to avoid more bloodshed. Arab League Secretary-General

Nabil al-Arabi said the Arab countries will help Libya rebuild.

On August 22, an official of the Libyan opposition

implied that,

since Russia and China do not support

the armed opposition in overthrowing the Gaddafi regime,

these countries may lose their oil contracts in the new Libya.

Libyan embassies and consulates in many countries

replaced the flag and discarded Gaddafi's portraits.

The Libyan Embassy in China changed its flag on August 22.

Regardless of the guards, a diplomat lowered the flag and

shouted excitedly, "It's over!"

That same day, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said,

"China respects the choice of the Libyan people."

Tang Boqiao (Chairman of China Democratic League):

“The world history has its trends.

Those upholding it will prosper,

those against it dissipate.

If you support the Libyan opposition to overthrow the tyranny,

then how should you deal with Chinese people's demands?

They also want to overthrow the tyranny,

and have democracy and freedom."

This spring, the Jasmine Revolution in North Africa

and the Middle East influenced China.

Chinese authorities arrested hundreds of democratic dissidents,

human rights activists, lawyers and petitioners.

"Jasmine" became a censored word online.

One netizen in mainland China, Li Qingzhen, said that

Gaddafi used to have four trump cards:

control of national resources

under the name of “serving the people;”

depriving people's rights

under the name “the people's rule;”

suppression of people's dissatisfaction

under the name of “national stability;”

suppressing other groups under the name of

maintaining “national unity.”

However, after 42 years, Libyan people

have seen through Gaddafi's lies and tricks.

Former RFI Chinese director, and former senior reporter

with Xinhua News Agency, Wu Baozhang , had this to say:

“When an autocratic regime comes to an end, it is more than

ever arrogant. It has no respect for the people or for justice.

What they see is only the strength of the dictator.

But events in the past six months have proved that

however strong a dictator looks, people can overthrow him."

Famous Chinese writer, Gu Xiaojun, published an article

saying, “Ah, CCP! Gaddafi fled Libya.

What should the CCP do? Gaddafi is an old friend.

The CCP denounces the opposition army as “rebels.”

Isn't that true? There is no difference in Gaddafi's dictatorship

and CCP's rule. Libya had the same issues we do.”

CCTV produced a special program for Gaddafi,

praising him as a "maverick hero."

On August 22, CCP mouthpiece Chinanews.com cited

a CCTV program where a female Libyan TV anchor

holds a gun and vows to sacrifice herself

for the Gaddafi regime.

Mainland netizens commented: "Chinanews.com is really

funny. When CCP dies, there won't be one such person!”

“Saddam and Gaddafi have made

good examples for the CCP.”

Chen Shuqing (democrat in Zhejiang):

“The Libyan people will never forgive Gaddafi.

Human beings have their principles of justice.

Different activities have different consequences.

If Gaddafi met the demands of the people,

they would have shown mercy.

What is China's future?

That depends on the power of the people.”

Current affairs commentator, Cao Changqing, pointed out

that the dominant voice of the Chinese democratic movement

has always been to "reform within the system."

“They never mention that in the face of brutal repression,

people have the rights of self-defense.”

On August 22, an editorial in Global Times, which is under

People's Daily, said Libya could become “Afghanistanized.”

Professor Zhang Ming at Renmin University of China, said

that China always hopes democratization comes with chaos,

in order to prove the legitimacy of its dictatorship. But the

pursuit of democratization will not stop in front of threat.
