CCP』 Dissent Crackdown Intensifies

The Chinese Communist Party』s (CCP) crackdown

on dissidents continues to intensify.

In April the prominent human rights activists

Zhu Yufu, Hua Chunhui and Wei Qiang

were detained without a trial,

and lawyer Ni Yulan was put in criminal detention.

Hong Kong』s Chinese Human Rights Centre said

that Zhu Yufu』s non-trial detention was for

his inciting subversion of the CCP』s regime.

Detained on March 5 and jailed on April 11,

Zhu Yufu become the fifth arrested rights activist

who openly supported Jasmine Revolution.

Hong Jiajiong (Zhu』s friend): "CCP cracks down

on dissidents and is so evil that it recently started

to monitor us with police watching our doors,

and we can do nothing but just complain."

The 58-year old Zhu Yufu was jailed for 9 years,

sentenced in 1999 to 7 years for his 『subversion』

and to 3 years deprivation of political rights.

Hua Chun Hui and Wei Qiang were also kept in

detention for their activities in Jasmine Rallies.

The retired professor of Shandong University,

Sun Wenguang said that CCP represses dissidents

through detentions without legal procedures.

Sun: "Labor detentions may work in a short term,

but repressions of human rights never last long.

The suppressed voice will only build up

and break out sooner or later."

According to the RFI, the long-surveyed and

disabled Beijing Human Rights lawyer Ni Yulan

and her husband Dong Jiqin were both detained

on 13 April for affray, becoming the first lawyers

detained after the Jasmine rallies in China.

Ni Yulan, graduated in 1980s from the Law School

of Chinese Political University, and was tortured

by CCP and made disabled from the waist down

because of her law case defense for Falun Gong.

It is believed that since mid February, in China

6 lawyers have disappeared, and 3 are monitored.

Cheng Xiaonong (Chinese scholar in the U.S.):

"I assume CCP will continue sentencing those rights

activists, for the Jasmine Revolution and beyond.

CCP is actually on its way back to Mao』s time."

Cheng also said that though the economic growth

strengthened the ruling power,

CCP faces an intensifying political environment,

given its current repressions and persecutions.
