Taiwan’s former first lady, Wu Shu-chen, has been escorted to a prison hospital for health evaluations on Friday.

台灣前第一夫人吳淑珍，周五被護送到監獄醫院接受健康評估。

The results will determine if she will begin her 17-and-a-half-year prison term.

評估結果將決定她是否開始17年6個月的刑期。

Wu, along with her husband, former Taiwanese president Chen Shui-bian, were sentenced last December on charges of graft and money laundering.

吳淑珍與她的丈夫，前台灣總統陳水扁，去年十二月因為貪污和洗錢被判刑。

The frail former first lady has been in poor health and confined to a wheelchair after she was paralyzed due to a vehicle accident in the 1980s.

身體虛弱的前第一夫人，健康狀況一直不佳，1980年代的一次車禍意外，使她癱瘓受限於輪椅。

Wu first reported to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutor's Office for questioning, then traveled on the high-speed rail to report to the Taichung Prison's Pei Teh Hospital.

吳淑珍先到高雄地檢署報到，接受詢問，隨後搭高鐵，前往台中監獄附屬培德醫院。

She will remain at the hospital if her health result is unsatisfactory.

如果她的健康報告並不理想，她將留在醫院。

[Chen Chih-chung, Wu Shu-chen’s Son]:

"My mother is very thankful, and she has asked me to thank everyone. We cannot do very much right now. We don't have any choice, and we feel helpless. The only thing we can do is to ask God to protect my mother, and hope everything will go smoothly."

吳淑珍的兒子陳致中說：

「我的母親非常感恩，她要我謝謝大家。我們現在能做的不多。我們感到無奈也沒有任何選擇。我們唯一能做的就是祈求上帝保祐我媽媽，希望一切順利。」

Once decided, Wu could become the first former First Lady jailed in Taiwan.

一旦決定下來，吳淑珍可能成為台灣首位入監的前第一夫人。
